Planning For Success At Flemington Estate

26 June 2017

The Andrews Labor Government’s renewal of the Flemington public housing estate reached an important milestone today with the release of the proposed Planning Scheme Amendment (PSA) after seven months of planning and community engagement.

The Labor Government’s $30 million plan will rebuild the run down and inaccessible concrete walk-ups at Flemington and replace them with brand new modern homes for Victorians in need.

It will increase the amount of social housing at Flemington by at least ten per cent and create a vibrant integrated community that breaks the stigma of social housing, reduces anti-social behaviour and increases opportunities for employment, education and connection with the broader community.

The Labor Government proposal includes the potential for a range of buildings between two and ten levels, and a single building up to 20 levels, adjacent to the existing 20 storey towers. The proposal also includes secure podium parking within buildings.

The proposed Planning Scheme Amendment will be on public consultation until Friday, 21 July 2017. To view the documents or to make a submission visit planning.vic.gov.au/shrp
