Northcote Scores A Goal With New Netball Courts

16 November 2016

The Andrews Labor Government is putting people in the Darebin community first by delivering on its election commitment to build new outdoor netball courts at Northcote High School.

Minister for Sport John Eren joined Member for Northcote Fiona Richardson at Northcote High today to announce plans are under way for six new courts in Thornbury, Fairfield and Northcote.

We’re building three new courts complete with competition-standard lighting at Thornbury High School, two at Northcote High School and one at Fairfield Primary School – and that means budding netballers will be able to play the sport they love closer to home.

Netball participation is booming in inner Melbourne, but demand for court space has outstripped supply. We’re fixing that, and changing budding young netballers’ lives for the better.

Construction of three new courts at the Darebin Community Sports Stadium is already under way, and we’ve announced plans for upgraded facilities at JC Donath Reserve and Moore Park.

We’ve announced plans for a feasibility study for a world-class netball complex at Yarra Park Bend.

We’re listening to local associations, who say they need extra space to accommodate more members than ever before. The new courts we’re building are a big win for budding players, and school students too.

The Labor Government’s Inner City Netball Program is building 64 new courts where they’re needed most, ensuring nobody is turned away from playing the game they love.
