New TAFE Campus A Win For Colac

15 December 2016

The Andrews Labor Government is putting people first in Victoria’s south-west with the opening of a new TAFE facility in Colac.

Minister for Training and Skills Gayle Tierney today visited the future campus of South West TAFE, which will be centrally located in Bromfield Street in the heart of the town.

From early next year, the new facility will offer a range of VCAL courses for those wanting a hands-on school-level qualification, as well as certificates in travel and tourism, early childhood education, individual support and guiding.

It will mean Colac locals have access to more training options. There are already four Learn Local organisations – Karingal, Colac Community Hub, Otway Health and Diversitat – offering a range of pre and accredited training.

This Government was elected to put people first and that means delivering on the things that matter most to people – including making sure locals, all across Victoria, have access to real training so they can get real jobs.

In January, the Government will introduce its new approach to training and TAFE, Skills First, which will give TAFE a central role in training, setting the quality benchmarks and driving productivity improvements across the state.

The Labor Government has invested $10.8 million in South West TAFE, which also has campuses in Hamilton, Portland and Warrnambool, including $2.9 million for vital community support services including learner support.
