New Mernda Police Station A Step Closer

01 June 2016

Mernda’s new crime-fighting hub is a step closer to completion after the Andrews Labor Government announced the appointment of a design and construction contractor.

Visiting the station’s future home today, Minister for Police Lisa Neville said ADCO Constructions (Vic) Pty Ltd had been appointed to build the station following a competitive tender process.

The new $15 million station, on the corner of Bridge Inn Road and Pimpinella Pass, will service Melbourne’s booming northern suburbs, with room to expand in the future if needed.

The station will house uniformed officers, family violence response staff and a criminal investigation unit, along with other police units and administrative staff. It’s due to be operational in the second half of 2017.

Today’s announcement is part of the Labor Government’s ongoing work to give police the resources they need, with a $596 million Public Safety Package delivered in the Victorian Budget 2016/17 to keep the community safe.

The Government is funding more than 400 extra sworn police, including more anti-gang taskforce officers, new mobile technology and specialist police vehicles and equipment.

The Budget also delivers nearly $37 million to replace or refurbish 22 regional and rural police stations and 10 police residences to support police officers in country Victoria.

Construction will commence after planning has been approved.
