New Judge Of Trial Division Appointed

Attorney-General Martin Pakula today announced the appointment of Peter Riordan QC to the Trial Division of the Supreme Court.

Mr Riordan brings 39 years of legal experience to the bench, specialising in commercial litigation including corporations, property law, insurance and professional liability.

Appointed as Senior Counsel in 2003, Mr Riordan also served as Chairman of the Victorian Bar Council from 2007 to 2008 and President of the Australian Bar Association from 2010 to 2011.

Mr Riordan won the 1979 Victorian Solicitors prize and has held numerous positions with the Law Institute of Victoria, including serving on the Ethics, Interprofessional Partnerships and Litigious Costs committees.

Over the past 28 years, Mr Riordan has been published widely on issues such as substantive law, professional practice, alternative dispute resolution, ethics, commercial litigation, corporate and employee liability, mediation and litigation funding.

Mr Riordan’s appointment to the Supreme Court follows the appointment of the Honourable Justice Stephen Kaye to the Court of Appeal last month.
