New Investment For Wimmera Industrial Precinct

02 August 2017

Wimmera grain growers will benefit from the development of new industrial lots at the Wimmera Intermodal Freight Terminal site, improving supply chain efficiency, reducing cost and improving the competitiveness of Victorian farmers.

Minister for Agriculture Jaala Pulford today announced $1.25 million from the Andrews Labor Government for Stage 1 of the Wimmera Intermodal Freight Terminal Industrial Precinct development.

The 100-hectare precinct will see the establishment of industrial lots with bitumen road access, street lighting and other amenities for agribusinesses and food and fibre processors establishing operations at the precinct.

The development will create 20 new industrial lots, generate up to 80 jobs and attract further commercial opportunities.

It will ensure Victorian farmers and businesses are able to continue to grow markets at a global level and stimulate job creation and investment in regional Victoria.

The Wimmera is one of Victoria's largest dryland farming regions and the Wimmera Intermodal Freight Terminal is a key export hub for local grain producers.

The $2.5 million development will be delivered by Horsham Rural City Council with support from the Labor Government.

The Government is supporting the development through its $200 million Agriculture Infrastructure and Jobs Fund, which is supporting projects that maintain market access, grow exports and boost jobs across Victoria.

Victoria exported $11.9 billion in food and fibre in 2015-16 – more than any other state in Australia. The sector employs more than 190,000 people and accounts for 29 per cent of all Australian farm exports.
