New Home For Frankston Hospital Specialist Clinics

10 September 2015

Minister for Health Jill Hennessy today officially opened the new specialist consulting facilities at Frankston Hospital, which will improve and increase access to outpatient services for residents on the Peninsula.

The $81 million redevelopment of the Frankston Hospital, opened earlier this year, delivered a new and larger emergency department, along with new special nursery cots, intensive care beds, a short stay ward and two 32-bed acute adult inpatient wards.

The new outpatient facilities have been built where the old emergency department was located, and is now a revamped service for Peninsula Health’s women’s, children’s, adolescent’s, and orthopaedic specialist clinics.

The facilities include 22 consulting rooms, procedure rooms, waiting areas and multi-purpose rooms, and provide improved experience for patients, families and carers with an innovative patient check-in kiosk, a breast feeding space, colour coding to help people find their way around, and better amenities and privacy.

In 2014-15, Peninsula Health was one of the state’s busiest health services, with more than 66,000 presentations to the Frankston Hospital emergency department and more than 50,000 specialist outpatient clinic appointments.

The Andrews Labor Government is providing hospitals with extra funding to ensure Victorians can get the care they need when they need it.

This year, Peninsula Health has received $405.9 million, $16.3 million more than last year. This includes funding for a new intensive care unit bed and also funding from the Hospital Beds Rescue Fund.

It also includes, as recommended by the Travis Review, funding to open eight points of care to establish a rapid assessment chest pain service at Frankston Hospital which will enable it to treat an extra 2,000 patients each year.
