Victoria has strengthened its reputation as world leader in international education with a new partnership between the Andrews Labor Government and the Chilean Government.
Minister for International Education Steve Herbert was in Santiago to oversee the signing of a Letter of Intent that will pave the way for more cooperation between Victoria and Chile in education and training.
The agreement will see Chile and Victoria collaborate on the creation of Chile’s new public technical education institutions and will encourage cooperation between universities in Victoria and throughout Chile.
Agreements like the one signed with the Ministry of Education in Chile demonstrate how well respected Victoria’s education, training and research expertise are throughout the world.
This is just one part of the Minister’s seven day education Mission which includes meetings with key representatives from education, government and education providers in Mexico and Chile.
Latin America has been identified as a key growth market for Victoria and student enrolments from the region have more than doubled, up from 5,000 in 2011 to more than 10,000 in 2015.
The visit builds on a trip Mr Herbert took to Latin America last year which has already resulted in increased student numbers and education and research partnerships between Victoria and Latin America.
International Education in Victoria is worth more than $5.8 billion to our economy and supports 30,000 local jobs, making it the state’s largest service based export.
