Minister for Agriculture Jaala Pulford today announced the appointment of Brian Hine as the new Chair of the Game Management Authority (GMA).
Mr Hine brings more than 35 years of experience to the role, working in areas such as land management, health and human services, local government and emergency services.
Most recently, he served as Victoria’s Deputy Emergency Services Commissioner.
The GMA works with the community as an effective, independent regulator and as a facilitator of sustainable game management and quality hunting opportunities for future generations.
Recreational hunting is a popular activity in Victoria. More than 50,000 recreational hunters generate an estimated $439 million each year in local economies, supporting almost 3,500 full time jobs across Victoria.
The Andrews Labor Government invested $5.33 million in the Victorian Budget 2016/17 to support safe, responsible and sustainable hunting.
Mr Hine has an important role, with the GMA to lead implementation of the Government's soon-to-be-released Sustainable Hunting Action Plan.
He was appointed to the position following an open and transparent recruitment process that attracted a strong field of candidates.
