More Private Rental Support For Family Violence Victims

27 June 2017

The Andrews Labor Government will roll out another round of the successful Private Rental Assistance Program to help more women and children experiencing family violence access the private rental market.

The program, trialled over the past year, has been a success – supporting access to over 500 households in the private rental market.

The program was part of the $152 million housing package announced in response to the Royal Commission into Family Violence. Given the trial’s success, the Labor Government is investing an extra $33 million in the program.

The Government will also invest another $2 million to support more women and children through the Rapid Housing Program.

The rental properties in the Rapid Housing Assistance program are managed by community housing organisations throughout Melbourne and regional Victoria, who enter into partnerships with private landlords.

The Labor Government is investing $74 million in the Rapid Housing Assistance program, which has already seen community housing agencies purchase or lease over 460 properties.
