Monitor Appointed To Central Goldfields Shire

21 July 2017

The Andrews Labor Government will appoint a monitor to examine the governance at Central Goldfield Shire Council.

Minister for Local Government Natalie Hutchins has re-appointed Bill Jaboor as municipal monitor of the Central Goldfields Shire Council.

Mr Jaboor’s appointment follows an earlier stint at the council in October 2016, where he identified governance issues and outlined where improvements should be made, including an organisational restructure, culture overhaul and improvement in policy and procedures.

That report also emphasised that the required restructure would address the need for more checks and balances across the organisation in areas such as finance and procurement.

Since then, the Central Goldfields Shire’s CEO has been charged by the Local Government Investigations and Compliance Inspectorate. The charges relate to alleged conflicts of interest, obtaining of financial advantage by deception and false accounting.

The monitor will now be in place until November 30 and will work to ensure the ongoing stability of the council’s governance processes and provide oversight of the performance of its administrative functions and statutory obligations.

Quotes attributable to Minister for Local Government Natalie Hutchins
