James Merlino MP

James was born in 1972 in Melbourne.

He was educated at St Edmonds Primary School, Mt Lilydale College and completed a Batchelor of Arts at the University of Melbourne.

James was elected as the Member for Monbulk in 2002 and re-elected in November 2006.

Following the 2006 election, James was appointed as the Minister for Sport, Recreation and Youth Affairs. Following the resignation of Premier Bracks, James was also appointed as the Minister Assisting the Premier on Multicultural Affairs.

Prior to his election to Parliament James worked as a part time bricklayer's labourer, electorate officer for Jan Wilson MP and as the National Industrial Officer for the Shop Distributive and Allied Employees Association.

James was elected as a councillor for the Shire of Yarra Ranges in 1997 and was Deputy Mayor from 2001-02.

James is a passionate Hawthorn supporter and enjoys reading and movies.
