Friday, 18 January 2008
Work will start next week on a $700,000 upgrade of Lara railway station Minister for Public Transport Lynne Kosky said today.

Ms Kosky said the upgrade would provide train passengers with an improved waiting area, new toilet facilities and a station kiosk.

“The Brumby Government is committed to improving transport services and facilities for regional Victorians,” Ms Kosky said.

“This project will see a major overhaul of the existing station, with both structural and aesthetic improvements.

“The facelift will complement the new Lara Parkway facility, which was completed late last year.”

The new-look Lara Station will include:
A new coach/train interchange;
A larger passenger waiting room;
A new kiosk for customers;
A new staffroom/meals area;
New toilets for staff and customers, including facilities for the disabled;
Structural improvements to the building; and
Painting and landscaping improvements.

Member for Lara, John Eren, welcomed the announcement.

“With increased parking, and soon-to-be greatly improved passenger facilities, Lara passengers can look forward to a more enjoyable travel experience,” Mr Eren said.

“This comes on top of reductions in V/Line fares and safety improvements to the level crossing, the Brumby Government continues to deliver for Lara residents.”

Ms Kosky said while the works were carried out a temporary ticket office, waiting room and toilet facilities would be situated in the car park.

“The Brumby Government has already delivered increased services to regional Victoria and now, through projects such as this, we are delivering improved passenger facilities,” she said.

The project is scheduled to be completed by the middle of the year.
