VICTORIANS ENCOURAGED TO VOTE IN LOCAL COUNCIL ELECTIONS

For the first time in Victoria all 79 councils will be holding simultaneous elections on 29 November and Local Government Minister Richard Wynne today encouraged all Victorians to have a say in their local communities by exercising their democratic rights in the poll.

Residents of Nillumbik Shire Council will soon have access to a larger, refurbished library in Eltham as part of the Brumby Government’s Living Libraries Program.

DOORS OPEN TO A REVITALISED LIBRARY IN GEELONG WEST

Residents from the City of Greater Geelong will have access to a bigger and more modern library which will provide a wider range of services for people of all ages and an informal meeting place for the local community, thanks to a $250,000 grant from the Brumby Government’s Living Libraries program.

A 20-year relationship was sealed today with the official opening of the Farnham Street Neighbourhood Centre as the new home of the Flemington Neighbourhood House and the Flemington Reading and Writing program.

Charges have been filed against two Ballarat City councillors under the Local Government Act, relating to numerous failures to declare business interests over a number of years, as a result of an investigation into processes and governance at the council tabled in Parliament today.
