The Andrews Labor Government has reaffirmed its support for the resources sector and has pledged to work with the industry to grow Melbourne as a hub for mining businesses and resource services in the lead up to the International Mining and Resources Conference (IMARC).
Minister D’Ambrosio today hosted the Resources Roundtable advising on the International Mining and Resources Conference (IMARC). The Roundtable featured some global resources industry heavyweights and mining identities which play an influential role in contributing billions to Victoria's economy through employment, supply chain development, research & development, education and exports.
Victoria has a global competitive advantage as a resources business and professional services hub due to the location of iconic mining company headquarters in Melbourne and its heritage as the birthplace of mining in Australia, dating back to the gold rushes of the 1800s.
Victorian businesses in the resources equipment, technology and services sector were worth an estimated $17 billion in 2012.
IMARC was established in Melbourne to capitalise on international exposure and brand Melbourne as a global resources and professional services hub.
The inaugural event in 2014 attracted over 2,000 delegates from over 31 countries and injected $4.5 million into the Victorian economy.
This year’s IMARC, to be held 10-12 November, is projected to attract over 3,000 delegates. Junior miners registered in Victoria with market capitalisation under $50 million are eligible for a government subsidy to exhibit to attract investors.
