Minister for Environment and Climate Change Ryan Smith today announced the appointment of Mr Kenneth Harrison as the new Chairman of the Royal Botanic Gardens Board Victoria.
Mr Smith said that Mr Harrison brought over 40 years’ experience to the Royal Botanic Gardens Board, with a career as a professional company director and accountant, specialising in pastoral, horticultural and agricultural activities.
“Mr Harrison is a leading member of the Victorian philanthropic sector, who brings a distinguished record of achievement to the Royal Botanic Gardens Board,” Mr Smith said.
“Mr Harrison is Governor of the Anaesthesia and Pain Medication Foundation, Director of the Australian Dental Association’s Evident Foundation and is a keen supporter of the Royal Children’s Hospital and the National Gallery of Victoria.
Mr Harrison was first appointed to the Royal Botanic Gardens Board Victoria on 9 April 2012.
Minister Smith also welcomed new board member, Professor Tony Bacic FAA.
Professor Bacic is a plant biologist with an extensive background in research and research training.
Professor Bacic is director of the Bio21 Molecular Science & Biotechnology Institute, The University of Melbourne, Deputy Director of the ARC Centre of Excellence in Plant Cell Walls; and a member of the Maud Gibson Trust Board.
“I congratulate Mr Harrison and Professor Bacic on their appointments and wish them both every success in their ongoing contribution to the Royal Botanic Gardens,” Mr Smith said.
