Planning Minister Matthew Guy has today announced the approval of a leading zero-carbon housing development known as the Cape Paterson Eco-village on Victoria's Bass Coast.
In making the announcement on site at Cape Paterson, Mr Guy was joined by Member for Bass Ken Smith.
Mr Guy said the proposal had considerable merit as an exemplary example of sustainable residential development.
"The Cape Paterson Eco-village project has been subject to a prolonged planning process and Amendment C119 will finally give much needed support to the development," Mr Guy said.
The project's core eco-credentials include approximately 190 homes with a 7.5 star energy rating as well as tourist accommodation; a community hub, including education and function rooms; and approximately 25 hectares of public open space and habitat reserves.
Mr Guy said the development had responded to previous issues raised by the community and planning panel including:
relocation of community facilities and visitor accommodation closer to the Cape Paterson township, including pedestrian and bicycle links;
improved lot layout optimising solar access and cost effective 7.5 star energy efficiency rating;
an additional local park for the use of all Cape Paterson residents; and
improved fire breaks and road networks.
Member for Bass Ken Smith welcomed the Minister's decision.
"This is a fantastic project that will showcase the best of the Bass Coast for new residents and a growing tourism industry," Mr Smith said.
