Members of the West Melton community gathered for an open day today to celebrate their brand new $5 million, state-of-the-art Arnold’s Creek Children’s and Community Centre.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional and Rural Development Peter Ryan said the centre, which was supported by $ 500 000 in Victorian Government funding, provided the space for residents of all ages, abilities, backgrounds and circumstances to increase their participation in local community life.
“Melton Shire is one of the fastest growing municipalities in Australia and it is important that local services and infrastructure keep pace with the emerging needs of the community,” Mr Ryan said.
“This centre is a great example of a facility that will help build a stronger, more active and inclusive neighbourhood.”
Member for Western Victoria, David O’Brien, who represented Mr Ryan, joined Melton Shire Mayor Justin Mammarella to officially open the new centre.
“This fantastic new community hub offers special facilities for the youngest residents of West Melton, including Maternal and Child Health consulting suites, kindergarten and playgroup rooms, as well as multipurpose community rooms, meeting spaces and outdoor recreation areas for all,” Mr O’Brien said.
Mr O’Brien said the project demonstrated real partnership between the local council and community as well as with the Victorian Government.
“As well as the funding from the government’s Victorian Community Support Grants scheme, Melton Shire Council provided more than $3 million towards the project and local developers contributed another $1.5 million.”
Mr O’Brien said the Coalition Government was committed to supporting projects such as this that not only mean something to the community, but also deliver the best long-term results for the local area.
“The Coalition Government will continue to support projects that deliver practical benefits for communities by creating and improving opportunities for people and contributing to lasting positive change,” Mr O’Brien said.
