Grants available to tackle Indigenous family violence

Tuesday, 30 October 2012

Indigenous community groups have until 16 November this year to apply for grants to tackle family violence in Victoria’s Indigenous communities, Minister for Women’s Affairs Mary Wooldridge said today.

The 2012-2013 funding round for grants totaling $650,000 is provided through the Indigenous Family Violence Community Initiatives Fund.

The grants of varying amounts fund local community projects that aim to prevent and raise awareness of family violence in Indigenous communities.

“As part of the Indigenous Family Violence Strategy, these grants are an effective way for local Indigenous communities to prevent, reduce and respond to family violence,” Ms Wooldridge said.

Proposals to apply for a grant must:

  • align with the goals and objectives of the Indigenous Family Violence Regional Action Plans;
  • provide an on-going or long-term benefit to the community;
  • complement existing local community projects or initiatives; and
  • prevent, reduce or respond to family violence.

Applications for the grants close on 16 November 2012.

For further information on the grants and how to apply, telephone the Department of Human Services on (03) 9096 0225.
