Learn Local finalists unveiled
Minister for Higher Education and Skills Peter Hall today announced the 2012 Victorian Learn Local Awards finalists.
Mr Hall said Learn Local education and training centres, including neighbourhood houses, living and learning centres and many not-for-profit organisations, offered life-long learning opportunities for all Victorians.
"More than 310 Learn Local organisations help around 95,000 Victorians gain new skills through adult community education and training programs for people from all walks of life," Mr Hall said.
"Courses range from basic computer skills to Certificates and Diplomas in business or community services.
"We know these educational opportunities are helping to change the lives of many people who may not have had the opportunity to pursue other educational options."
Mr Hall said prize money totalling $45,000 would be awarded to the winning adult education organisations and individual learners in six categories.
"Three finalists have been selected in each of the six award categories: Outstanding Organisation, Outstanding Learner, Outstanding Practitioner, Outstanding Pre-accredited Program, Outstanding Koorie Achievement and Innovation in Learning."
The winner of each award will be announced on 7 September at the Victorian Learn Local Awards luncheon in Melbourne.
