Victorian Coalition Govt investment to strengthen regional arts

Premier and Minister for the Arts Ted Baillieu today announced a $3.58 million investment in regional arts through the Victorian Coalition Government's new Regional Partnerships program.
Speaking at Warrnambool, Mr Baillieu said the new Regional Partnerships program was part of the Coalition Government's commitment to the arts in regional Victoria.
"This Regional Partnerships funding will support and strengthen our network of professionally-managed regional art galleries and performing arts centres through agreements with the councils that own and operate these facilities," Mr Baillieu said.
Mr Baillieu said venues will each receive between $40,000 and $160,000 this year to support their programming and ensure they continue to offer top-quality arts experiences to locals and visitors.
The program reaches all council-owned arts venues in regional Victoria – 20 art galleries, 12 performing arts centres and seven multi-venue performing arts programs.
The new program features longer-term funding agreements to enable better planning by venues and the ability to support specific projects or activities that may be beyond the scope of standard programs.
"The arts are vital to the life and economy of regional Victoria, securing jobs, attracting tourists, stimulating local businesses and bringing people from all walks of life together," Mr Baillieu said.
"There have already been some great highlights from the regional arts sector this year including the Mildura Wentworth Arts Festival that celebrated the strength of the local community after the floods and Bendigo's The White Wedding Dress exhibition, direct from London's famed Victoria and Albert Museum."
