New business grants will create 340 new jobs in Victoria

Minister for Innovation, Services and Small Business Louise Asher has today announced almost $3 million in grants that will result in the creation of 340 new jobs across Victoria.

"The Competitive Business Fund (CBF) grant program will help 17 companies improve their global competitiveness, enhance productivity, save money on production costs and create more local employment," Ms Asher said.

"These grants will deliver long-term economic benefits and jobs growth to Victoria.

"The 17 new projects supported under the CBF represent almost $20 million of investment and are expected to deliver at least 340 new jobs.

"The Victorian Coalition Government is helping to foster a dynamic manufacturing sector by building capability and prompting demand driven development of new products for both domestic and export markets.

"As a result of a Coalition Government policy decision in March 2011, small businesses of 20 FTE or fewer are now eligible to apply for these grants.

"I am pleased to announce three of the 17 recipients, including Billman's Foundry of Castlemaine, were newly eligible and successful.

Billman's Foundry which manufactures ferrous and non-ferrous casting products and has been awarded $25,000 to upgrade its power supply.

"These grants will assist companies invest in new equipment, infrastructure, technology and product or process innovation. This will lead to sustainable increases in business productivity, employment and export potential," Ms Asher said.

Other CBF grants delivered under this round of funding include:

  • $150,000 to Clyne Foods, Warracknabeal to commercialise a vine fruit dehydration process
  • $150,000 to Bright Brewery, Bright to significantly expand its facilities providing a high-profile town centre attraction on the Great Alpine Road
  • $180,000 to Omniblend, Campbellfield to install a new canning line to produce dietary and nutritional products for export to China and other Asian markets.

"The fund is an excellent example of how the Coalition Government is working collaboratively with industry to drive improved competitiveness," Ms Asher said.
