MCC Partnership To Provide New School Sports Ground

29 August 2016

The Andrews Labor Government has reached an agreement with the Melbourne Cricket ClubExternal Link (MCC) to provide world-class sporting facilities at a new school in Melbourne’s bayside suburbs.

Minister for Education James Merlino made the announcement at the new Beaumaris Secondary College site, where demolition of the old school buildings started today.

In a Victorian-first, the MCC will fund two competition grade ovals, a pavilion and a multipurpose pitch as part of the Labor Government’s redevelopment of the school under the agreement.

The new $20 million school is being built at Sandringham College’s former Beaumaris campus site, with existing school buildings being demolished to make way for a new state of the art school.

The sporting facilities will be used by the school during school hours and by the MCC and local sporting groups outside of school hours.

This will provide a unique opportunity for students and the local community to access world-class sporting facilities supported by the MCC.

Construction will start in January next year. The school will accommodate 650 students from year 7-12 and is on track to open in the 2018 school year.

Beaumaris Secondary College is one of 42 new government schools in the construction pipeline following a record $1.8 billion investment by the Labor Government in new schools and school upgrades around the state.

This school building boom will create 4000 construction jobs and ensure all Victorian families have access to a great school no matter where they live.

The Labor Government is building the Education State so that every Victorian gets the opportunity for a great education and every community has access to a great school.
