Locals To Help Shape Warrnambool Hospital Revamp

21 July 2017

The Warrnambool community will help shape an expansion of Warrnambool Base Hospital that will best meet local healthcare needs and deliver world-class care into the future.

Visiting the south-west today, Premier Daniel Andrews confirmed that Member for Western Victoria James Purcell will chair a newly-formed Community Advisory Group for the project, which thanks to the Andrews Labor Government received $7.5 million planning and design money in the Victorian Budget 2017/18.

Joining Mr Purcell on the committee are Peter Headen, Vicki Jellie, Russell Worland and South West Healthcare interim CEO Craig Fraser.

The South West Healthcare Community Advisory Group will conduct its first meeting in August.

A public forum will also be held where the community can express its views on the services they need as part of the redevelopment at South West Healthcare. Details of the forum will be available soon.

The Labor Government has a long history of supporting health across Warrnambool, with the local health service securing $115 million in 2009, to undertake Stage 1 of the hospitals upgrade.

South West Healthcare also recently received more than $2 million from the Regional Health Infrastructure Fund to refurbish parts of the theatre complex and old chemotherapy areas, alongside equipment purchases to boost elective surgery capabilities.

To support growing demand and ensure patients in Warrnambool and surrounds can receive efficient, first-class care when they need it, the hospital has this week received $133.11 million in bottom-line funding for 2017/18, which is an increase of $7.45 million on the previous year.
