Statement From Minister Richardson - Leave Of Absence

07 August 2017

Shortly before the midwinter break, I became unwell and was diagnosed with a serious illness.

I underwent a successful surgical procedure in July and have been receiving further treatment since then.

I expected to be able to return to my Ministerial and Parliamentary duties in August, however, my recovery has been slower than I hoped.

Hence, I will be taking a further three weeks leave of absence from my Parliamentary and Ministerial duties.

In the meantime, my portfolios of Women and the Prevention of Family Violence will be in the capable hands of Minister for Health Jill Hennessy.

My dedicated electorate staff will continue to look after the needs of Northcote residents in the interim.

I am grateful for the support that has been shown to me by my friends and colleagues.

I would ask for privacy as my family and I focus on wellbeing and recovery.
