Labor Scores For Darebin Netballers

01 March 2017

The Andrews Labor Government’s first new netball courts for Melbourne’s inner suburbs are now ready for action in Darebin.

Minister for Sport John Eren joined Member for Preston Robin Scott today to officially open three new outdoor netball courts at the Darebin Community Sports Stadium in Reservoir.

Netball is booming in Victoria, but more court space is needed to accommodate this growth and attract even more Victorians to the court.

That’s why the Labor Government is getting on with building 64 new netball courts through our $9.6 million Inner City Netball Program.

With more than 300,000 participants across the state and the new action-packed Suncorp Super League underway, new courts are being built where they are needed most in Melbourne, Darebin, Moreland and Yarra.

The new courts at Darebin stadium feature a safer acrylic surface for players, wider run-off areas, more seating and shelter for participants and spectators, and line markings for tennis.

It will also be a great base for the local clubs in the Darebin Netball Association, providing them with both indoor and outdoor courts.

With three competition-ready netball courts planned next door at Reservoir High School, the two sites will be able to host big netball events and run training programs to unearth our future Super League stars.

These courts are just the start of a suite of new netball facilities being built in Darebin.

We’ve also announced funding for new courts at Northcote High School, Thornbury High School and Fairfield Primary School, and are redeveloping the netball facilities at JC Donath Reserve and Moore Park.
