The Andrews Labor Government will transform Geelong’s Kardinia Park into the best sporting arena in regional Australia by completing its world class redevelopment.
The Victorian Budget 2017/18 will invest $3.9 million to kick-start planning and design for Stage 5 of the redevelopment of Geelong Football Club’s iconic home.
This new work will take place at the same time as the Labor Government’s Stage 4 development nears completion, delivering a key election commitment. It will be the final chapter in a series of massive upgrades funded by Labor Governments.
Over the past 12 years, Kardinia Park has been upgraded from an ageing footy ground into a truly world class venue, and we want to give it even more power to lure the best of the best to Geelong.
The landmark $90 million Stage 4 redevelopment, including the new Brownlow Stand, will be ready for action when the Cats take on the Western Bulldogs under lights on May 19.
Along with AFL blockbusters, when it comes to hosting the big ticket games, Geelong is kicking goals.
Having recently hosted international cricket for the very first time, locals have been lucky enough to watch the likes of Atletico de Madrid, Melbourne Victory, Super Rugby and Rugby League matches in their own backyard.
These sporting coups and major events mean serious business for Geelong – they strengthen the local economy and give visitors an opportunity to see all this region has to offer.
