Kicking Goals: Free Trams And More Trains To The AFL Grand Final

The Andrews Labor Government is putting on more train and tram services than ever during Grand Final week to help footy fans celebrate and get to the Grand Final week events in Melbourne.

The Free Tram Zone will again be extended to the MCG and additional train and tram services will also operate to get Tigers fans to the celebrations at Punt Road Oval on Sunday 1st of OctoberExternal Link if Richmond win the flag.

With thousands of people expected to fill the city for the Grand Final Parade, 100,000 to go to the game on Saturday, and another 40,000 to pack Punt Road Oval, extra trains will run on Friday 29 SeptemberExternal Link and Saturday 30 September.

Grand Final Day will see 41 extra metropolitan train services, with more than 180 extra tram services added to the normal Saturday timetable and extra capacity on regional train lines.

The Free Tram Zone will also be extended to the MCG from Wednesday 27 SeptemberExternal Link to Grand Final Day on Saturday 30 SeptemberExternal Link .

The extended Free Tram Zone covers stops on Wellington Parade, at Rod Laver Arena and at the MCG and Hisense Arena.

Fares on Grand Final Friday and Saturday are capped at $6 a day for travel in Zones 1 and 2.

With extra daytime services, and all night transport on Friday and Saturday nights, public transport will be the best way to enjoy the long weekend of footy in Melbourne.
