Jason Mifsud Appointed To Aboriginal Victoria

The Andrews Labor Government has appointed Jason Mifsud as the new Executive Director for Aboriginal Victoria.

Mr Mifsud, a key Australian Football League (AFL) adviser and a member of the Kirrae and Peek Whurrong peoples’ of the Gunditjmara on his mother’s side, will lead the newly-established Aboriginal Victoria, as the Labor Government reaffirms Aboriginal Affairs as a key priority.

A former player and Assistant Coach with the St Kilda Football Club and Skills Acquisition Manager at the Western Bulldogs Football Club, Mr Mifsud was the AFL’s first Senior Adviser on Indigenous and Multicultural Affairs and was pivotal in establishing the AFL Indigenous Advisory Board.

As a Harvard Business Alumni, Mr Mifsud sits on the Board for the Australian Indigenous Leadership Centre, the NAB Indigenous Advisory Group and the national reference group for Recognise.

He has been a representative on the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission, VACCHO’s Suicide Prevention Taskforce, the Victorian Government Ministerial Advisory Council for Indigenous Affairs and Victorian Aboriginal Economic Development Group, as well as the Victorian Aboriginal Honour Roll Advisory Panel.

Mr Mifsud will begin at Aboriginal Victoria, within the Department of Premier and Cabinet, on 29 February 2016.
