It’s Time For Wimmera Southern Mallee Locals To Have Their Say

07 July 2017

Wimmera Southern Mallee locals have a chance to continue their conversation with the Andrews Labor Government, as community consultation leading up to the next Wimmera Southern Mallee Regional Assembly kicks off.

Minister for Regional Development Jaala Pulford encouraged local residents to engage with the Wimmera Southern Mallee Regional Partnership ahead of the 2017 Regional Assembly in Horsham on 2 August.

The Labor Government established nine Regional Partnerships last July, to give communities the opportunity to have their say on local matters and provide a direct voice into government decision-making.

Through extensive community engagement last year, the Wimmera Southern Mallee Partnership identified the region’s priorities for the future, including improving early childhood development, better leveraging the region’s competitive advantages in agri-science and building a more vibrant tourism industry.

The Wimmera Southern Mallee Regional Partnership has started seeing the results of its hard work.

In addition to supporting development of a business model for the Networked Grains Centre of Excellence, the Labor Government has allocated $44.4 million towards biosecurity, to better protect the state’s international reputation as a clean, green producer of food and fibre.

This year’s consultation period and Regional Assembly will give the community a chance to build on the momentum already gained, and share thoughts about local opportunities and challenges that span every government portfolio.

The Wimmera Southern Mallee Regional Partnership includes the shires of Hindmarsh, Northern Grampians, West Wimmera and Yarriambiack and the Horsham Rural City Council.
