Seven Victorians have been inducted onto the Victorian Disability Awards Lifetime Achievement Honour Roll becoming the first recipients of the award.
Presenting at the sixth annual awards, Minister for Housing, Disability and Ageing today acknowledged the significant achievements that had been made to empower people living with a disability in Victoria.
Victoria has a proud history of supporting those in the community who have a disability, and as well as the seven Lifetime Achievement Honour Roll recipients, 11 other individuals, groups and organisations had their contributions recognised.
The awards celebrate excellence and recognise the simple, creative things that people can do make a huge difference including:
- making it easier for people with a disability to speak up for themselves and their rights
- finding new ways to promote inclusion; and
- increasing awareness regarding accessibility in Victoria
Community consultation is also underway on the State disability plan 2017-2020. The plan will outline the outcomes to be achieved over the next four years to ensure people with a disability can participate fully in everyday life.
The awards are a joint initiative between National Disability Services and the Department of Health and Human Services.
