Improving Kindergartens In Romsey

15 March 2017

The Andrews Labor Government is helping families in Romsey access better kindergarten services with an upgraded outdoor play space.

Minister for Families and Children Jenny Mikakos today visited Romsey Kindergarten to open the new facility, which is designed to promote exploration, link existing play spaces and help children connect with the environment.

The Government invested $120,000 for the refurbishment including construction of a new sand pit and removal of fencing that divided the kindergarten’s playground, as well as a new mud kitchen, play equipment and paving.

Romsey Kindergarten is a two-room kindergarten operated by Macedon Ranges Shire Council, with 58 approved three-and-four-year-old kinder places.

The Government is investing $60 million in the early childhood sector through the building and upgrading of kindergartens and children’s centres.

Infrastructure projects such as these ensure local children’s services have the space and flexibility they need to deliver 15 hours of kindergarten alongside a range of other vital early years programs.

The National Partnership Agreement on Universal Access to Early Childhood Education, which funds 15 hours of preschool per week is due to run out this year.

Children who attend 15 hours per week of preschool do better at school, have improved job prospects and are set up to achieve their full potential.

We are making Victoria the Education State – this starts with giving every child a strong start in life.

The Liberals want to cut that vital start children need at the most important stage of their development.

Quotes attributable to Minister for Families and Children Jenny Mikakos

“We are delivering an unprecedented investment in new, bigger and better kindergartens to support children and families across the state, as Victoria’s population continues to grow.”

“The Andrews Labor Government is working to ensure all Victorian children see the benefit of these programs – no matter where they live.”

Quotes attributable to Member for Macedon Mary-Anne Thomas

“It feels like only yesterday when I visited Romsey kindergarten back in 2014 when I announced Labor’s commitment to delivering these upgrades.”

It’s so wonderful to return here and see these important upgrades come to fruition. These new outdoor spaces will benefit Romsey kindergarten now and years into the future and are worth every cent of the investment in our children”.
