New initiatives from the Andrews Labor Government will help ensure members of Victoria’s African community have the employment opportunities they deserve.
The Labor Government today announced $6 million to help multicultural jobseekers find meaningful work, as part of the Jobs Victoria Employment Network (JVEN).
The funding will also target support for young people from African, Afghan, and Lebanese communities and other multicultural youth aged 15-25 years.
The funding was announced as Premier Daniel Andrews and Minister for Multicultural Affairs Robin Scott opened the first meeting of the inaugural African Ministerial Working Group (AMWG), a forum for direct engagement between representatives from African communities and the Labor Government.
Bringing together key Ministers and up to 15 community leaders and young people, the AMWG will identify and address key issues affecting members of the Victorian African community.
Mr Scott today also announced $1 million over four years to help South Sudanese community organisations build their capacity and promote new partnerships within the community.
