The Andrews Labor Government has released an education kit to help councils better communicate with their residents from culturally diverse backgrounds about waste, recycling and litter.
Engaging with Culturally Diverse Communities on Waste, Resource Recovery and Litter - a Kit for Educators has been produced by the Metropolitan Waste and Resource Recovery Group in consultation with metropolitan council waste educators and culturally diverse engagement specialists.
As the Victorian population continues to grow, so does the population from non-English speaking backgrounds.
The latest census data shows more than 28 per cent of Victorians were born overseas, come from more than 200 countries and speak over 260 languages and dialects.
The kit will help metropolitan councils communicate effectively with these diverse groups, so they have a clear understanding about what can be recycled and how to do it – boosting recycling rates across their municipalities.
The education kit is just one of many initiatives being delivered by the Labor Government to deliver the community and environmental benefits in the Metropolitan Waste and Resource Recovery Implementation Plan.
