Greyhounds To Rock Wannon Park In Warrnambool

03 May 2017

The greyhound Warrnambool Cup Rock & Race night is set to attract more than 1800 racegoers, thanks to support from the Andrews Labor Government.

The Government is providing more than $21,000 towards the event through the Victorian Racing Industry Fund Raceday Attraction Program. The Warrnambool Greyhound Racing Club is matching the contribution.

The feature races include the Group Two Warrnambool Cup and the Macey’s Bistro Warrnambool Classic and more than $173,000 in prize money is up for grabs.

There will be plenty of entertainment on offer including live music, food stalls, and a $1000 cash prize giveaway. Complimentary buses will also be available from the Warrnambool CBD to ensure patrons can get safely to and from the track.

The Government is also providing $295,000 towards stage one of a major redevelopment of the infrastructure and pavilion at Wannon Park.

Stage one includes the construction of a temporary officials tower, a new photo-finish and timing system, as well as a head-on CCTV camera and upgrades to fire and electrical services.

The electrical service upgrades will be finished by the end of next week and the remaining stage one works will be completed by the end of the year.

Greyhound Racing Victoria is also contributing more than $386,000 towards the redevelopment.

The racing industry in the Western Districts generates more than $100 million annually for the Victorian economy and helps to sustain more than 980 full-time equivalent jobs in the region.
