Greensborough TAFE Campus On Course To Open In 2017

05 December 2016

The Andrews Labor Government is putting people first in Melbourne’s north-east by re-opening the Greensborough campus of Melbourne Polytechnic.

Four years after it closed because of funding cuts by the Liberals, the TAFE campus will reopen in 2017 returning skills and training to the people of Greensborough and north-east Melbourne.

It comes a year after the Labor Government returned training to Lilydale and the Yarra Ranges with the opening of Box Hill TAFE’s Lilydale Lakeside campus.

Minister for Training and Skills Gayle Tierney visited the Greensborough campus this morning – announcing $20 million to ensure Melbourne Polytechnic is ready to hit the ground running when the Greensborough campus reopens and Skills First is introduced in 2017.

The Labor Government was elected to put people first and that means delivering on the things that matter most to people – including making sure locals have access to real training so they can get a real job.

That’s exactly what Skills First, the Government’s new approach to training and TAFE, will do.

Among the courses to be offered at Greensborough next year are certificates in community services and mental health, business and accounting, floristry, bookkeeping and property services.

It means local people will have access to real training close to home so they can get a real job.

The site will also be home to the new Banyule Tech School which is expected to open in 2018.

In the Government’s two years of putting people first, Melbourne Polytechnic has received $19.5 million from the TAFE Rescue Fund – including $10 million to re-open Greensborough.
