The Andrews Labor Government has delivered on its election commitment to report annually to the Victorian Parliament and the broader community on mental health services.
Victoria’s Mental Health Services Annual Report 2015-16 will provide a greater understanding of the public mental health system, identifying system strengths, challenges and opportunities.
It’s the first time comprehensive information about Victoria’s public mental health system has been compiled in a single, easily accessible document.
The report follows amendments in the Mental Health Act 2014 requiring the Department of Health and Human Services to submit an annual report to the Minister for Mental Health each year.
It will monitor the implementation of Victoria’s 10 year mental health plan – which is backed up by a $356 million investment in the 16-17 Victorian Budget.
The actions in the plan work to improve the mental health and wellbeing of Victorians through services that are accessible, flexible and responsive, and delivered by a skilled and supported workforce.
Under the plan, the Labor Government has already taken action to prevent suicides, expand services and announced funding for 130 additional mental health professionals across Victoria.
