The Andrews Labor Government today announced $500,000 in grants to help support research projects which explore multiculturalism, community resilience and polarisation, marginalisation and violent extremism.
Now in its second year, the Social Cohesion Research Grants Program is open to Victorian applicants for funding of up to $150,000 over two years.
Research from the selected projects will help the Government to address gaps in knowledge, identify ways to strengthen community resilience, and prevent the growth of racist or religious extremism in our community.
In 2015, the Research Grants Program funded seven diverse projects covering a range of topics including transnational news, multiculturalism, and interviewing families of young people who have joined overseas conflict. Outcomes from these projects are expected in mid-2017.
Applicants to the 2016 program must be a member of the Research Institute on Social Cohesion (RIOSC) to be eligible to apply. Applicants can apply to be a member of RIOSC during the application process.
