The Andrews Labor Government is backing Backwell IXL’s move beyond traditional auto parts into infrastructure and logistics.
Minister for Industry and Employment Wade Noonan announced funding to support the Geelong manufacturing stalwart, which has been part of the community for more than 150 years.
This investment means three new jobs will be created and ten jobs will be retained.
Backwell IXL will buy new equipment, and will set up a new team to work with clients and focus on product innovation, business development and logistics.
Backwell IXL supplies automotive, mining, heating and cooling and electrical companies here and overseas.
The metal processing company is already moving into laser cutting and sheet metal fabrication as part of a long-term plan to diversify into other areas.
The grant is from the $33 million Local Industry Fund for Transition (LIFT) fund, which was set up to help automotive component makers diversify into new areas, securing jobs for manufacturing workers.
The Labor Government is working with manufacturing companies which face the slowdown and closure of car making to create new jobs and expansion opportunities.
The $33 million LIFT fund is in addition to the $46.5 million in funds for Towards Future Industries: Victoria’s Automotive Transition Plan.
