The Andrews Labor Government has announced $24 million to make roads safer, funding 13 new projects across Melbourne and regional Victoria.
The Safe System Road Infrastructure Program (SSRIP) is an important and targeted program that will help build on a number of road safety initiatives.
SSRIP aims to deliver projects which reduce the number of crashes on our roads, in particular run-off road crashes and head-on crashes.
The project upgrades will include installing roundabouts at intersections, installing barriers and run-off road preventions such as wider shoulders, ripple strips and wire-rope barriers. The road safety initiative aims to reduce the number of run-off road and head-on crashes.
This announcement continues to deliver part of the $1 billion investment by the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) that aims to reduce deaths and serious injuries on Victorian roads by 30 per cent.
A statewide innovative research study into the benefits of continuous flow intersections will also be undertaken.
