The Andrews Labor Government is listening to locals in the inner west, committing to reduce the number of trucks on Millers Road when the West Gate Tunnel project is complete.
Traffic modelling shows around 3000 fewer trucks will use Millers Road in 2031 if proposed truck tolling points are changed on the upgraded West Gate Freeway.
As part of the contract, the toll road operator will be required to include only one truck toll point instead of two on the West Gate Freeway, reducing the number of trucks using Millers Road.
The Labor Government has also committed to working with Millers Road residents on noise reduction measures to make their homes quieter.
The updates could include options like double glazing, insulation, fencing and air conditioning, and would be done in consultation with owners of properties that front Millers Road between the West Gate Freeway and Geelong Road.
The West Gate Tunnel Project will slash congestion and provide a much needed alternative to the West Gate Bridge with twin tunnels under Yarraville.
The project has been shaped by community feedback every step of the way with the tunnel exits moved away from houses, additional truck bans, existing parks protected, extensive new shared use paths and new open space created.
The environmental effects and benefits of the project are currently being comprehensively considered by an independent Inquiry and Advisory Committee appointed by the Minister for Planning.
