Expanding Kindergarten Places For Brunswick Families

13 March 2017

The Andrews Labor Government is helping families in Brunswick access expanded kindergarten services at Hartnett House Integrated Children’s Centre.

The completion of stage 1 has increased the licensed capacity from 94 to 126 places, including creating 11 new four-year-old kindergarten places.

The $600,000 upgrade includes two new children’s rooms, a community room, an undercover courtyard, refurbishing existing rooms and new office space for staff.

The Victorian Government contributed $350,000 towards the upgrade, with $250,000 provided by service operator Melbourne City Mission.

Planning is now under way for stage 2 of the upgrade with a further $350,000 Government investment to Melbourne City Mission last year, which will upgrade the staff and office facilities and have minimal impact on the centre’s childcare services.

The Government is investing $60 million in the early childhood sector through the building and upgrading of kindergartens and children’s centres.

Infrastructure projects such as these ensure local children’s services have the space and flexibility they need to deliver 15 hours of kindergarten alongside a range of other vital early years programs.

Children who attend 15 hours per week of preschool do better at school, have improved job prospects and are set up to achieve their full potential.

We are making Victoria the Education State – this starts with giving every child a strong start in life.

The Liberals want to cut that vital start children need at the most important stage of their development.
