Dough To Grow Jobs: Laurent Bakes The Perfect Expansion

14 July 2017

In a celebration of all things French on Bastille Day, the Andrews Labor Government has helped family-owned Laurent Bakery grow its baking business and create 30 new jobs in Melbourne’s south-east.

Minister for Industry and Employment Wade Noonan and Member for Mordialloc Tim Richardson today visited Laurent Bakery’s Braeside facility to announce the company’s expansion plan.

Laurent will build a new state-of-the-art bread line at a second facility to be based at Braeside, creating an additional 30 new manufacturing jobs.

Support from the Labor Government will also help Laurent boost production capacity and retain its manufacturing facilities and headquarters in Victoria.

Laurent’s baked delights are sold through its 16 retail stores and wholesale and food service nationally. The company also exports its products to South-East Asia.

The company’s Braeside facility produces bread for wholesale customers, housing a highly-automated, stone baked bread line.

The Government continues to invest in food and fibre, one of the state’s key growth sectors, through the Future Industries Fund.

There are more than 190,000 people employed across the sector.

Victoria is also Australia’s largest exporter of food and fibre products, with nearly $12 billion exported in 2015-16.
