Disability Scheme Ready For Those In Central Highlands

31 December 2016

Victorians with a disability in the Central Highlands will be the next to transition into the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

The roll out begins from today in Moorabool, Pyrenees, Ballarat, Ararat, Golden Plains and Hepburn local government areas. People living in these areas, who currently receive support from the Victorian Government will be contacted to make an appointment to undertake planning.

The NDIS will be fully operational across Victoria by mid-2019 and will support more than 105,000 Victorians with a disability.

An estimated 4516 people within Central Highlands are expected to transition into the NDIS including 1358 new clients. Central Highlands is the third area to roll into NDIS and Loddon will follow soon after in May 2017.

The NDIS supports people with a disability, their families and carers and provides increased independence, giving people greater choice and flexibility over the support they receive.

It is the biggest social reform in our nation and will help more people with disability get a job and participate in our community.

Already 7,600 Victorians are participants in NDIS and can plan for their future with certainty they will get the support they need.

The NDIS is being delivered through a funding partnership between the Commonwealth and Victorian governments and is transforming the way disability services are funded and accessed. By the time NDIS is fully operational in 2019, the Victorian investment will be $2.5 billion a year.

Clients who are currently receiving services from the Andrews Labor Government will continue to be able to access these services until they move to the NDIS.
