Disability Insurance Scheme Expands To Loddon

04 May 2017

Victorians with disability in Loddon are next to transition into the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

The roll out begins this week in Campaspe, Central Goldfields, Greater Bendigo, Loddon, Macedon Ranges and Mount Alexander local government areas.

The NDIS will be fully operational across Victoria by mid-2019 and will support more than 105,000 Victorians with disability.

An estimated 5300 people within Loddon are expected to transition to the NDIS, which will see 1450 more people receive support. Loddon is the fourth region to roll out to the NDIS, following Barwon, North East Melbourne and the Central Highlands.

The NDIS supports people with a disability, their families and carers and provides increased independence, giving people greater choice and flexibility over the support they receive. It is the biggest social reform in our nation and will help more people with a disability get a job and participate in our community.

Already 10,000 Victorians are participants in the NDIS and can plan their future with certainty they will get the support they need.

The NDIS is being delivered through a funding partnership between the Commonwealth and the Andrews Labor Government and is transforming the way disability services are funded and accessed. By the time NDIS is fully operational in 2019, the Victorian investment will be $2.5 billion a year.

This week’s Victorian Budget 2017/18 announced an additional $36.3 million to further assist Victorians with a smooth transition to the scheme.

Clients who are currently receiving services from the Labor Government will continue to be able to access these services until they move to the NDIS.
