The Andrews Labor Government is sowing the seeds for a new sports oval in Warragul, so even more budding cricket and football players can play the sports they love.
Minister for Sport John Eren today broke ground to kick start construction of a new $1.7 million senior-sized sports oval at Warragul’s Western Park.
We’re delivering a safer and stronger ground with fencing, drainage, irrigation and 100 lux floodlighting for training and competition. It will also include six new turf cricket training nets.
The Labor Government is kicking in $649,000 to build the second oval at Western Park – meaning teams will be able to train more often and for longer to fine tune their skills.
A second oval gives local grassroots clubs and the entire Baw Baw community a new space for competition, training, school programs and community events such as the Warragul Gift.
It is also a big win for the Western Park Cricket Club, Warragul Football Netball Club, Warragul Industrial Football Netball Club and the Gippsland Grunters all abilities football teams who will now be able to grow their ranks.
Warragul is famous for producing AFL champions like Gary Ablett, Peter Knights and Barry Round. Now more future stars will be inspired to follow in their footsteps.
The project is funded through our Community Sports Infrastructure Fund, which is upgrading grassroots clubs so communities like Warragul can build the modern facilities they deserve.
