Designs Sketched For New Echuca Ambulance Station

19 October 2016

Designs for a new home for paramedics in Echuca have been drawn up, with the project on track to be open in late 2017.

Premier Daniel Andrews today met with local paramedics and inspected artist impressions for the new $1.3 million station that will give paramedics the larger and modern facilities they need and deserve.

The purpose-built station will make it easier and safer for paramedics to respond quickly to local medical emergencies and save lives.

Echuca’s paramedics are currently based in a 50-year-old building that is no longer functional for today’s modern ambulance service.

With a single entry and exit point, ambulances must reverse in and out, posing a safety risk for paramedics and also slowing response times.

The old station will be demolished and replaced with a modern branch featuring a six-bay garage, rest and recline areas, training rooms, bedrooms, modern amenities and a fully fitted out kitchen.

Construction is on track to start in March 2017 and be completed later next year.

In January 2017, Echuca paramedics will temporarily relocate to the Echuca police station.

Echuca Ambulance Station has a growing team of 18 paramedics and two graduate paramedics and responds to about 290 call-outs a month.

In the Victorian Budget 2016/17 the Andrews Labor Government invested $144 million to rebuild the ambulance system after four years of crisis and neglect under the former Coalition Government.

This includes our $60 million ambulance Response Rescue Fund to provide faster responses and make sure our ambulances respond to the right patient, at the right time, with the right care.

This investment and the hard work of local paramedics has seen Campaspe Code 1 response times improve since the height of the ambulance crisis under the former Coalition Government in 2014.

Quotes attributable to Premier Daniel Andrews

“We’re rebuilding Echuca Ambulance Station so that our hard-working paramedics can do what they do best, which is to save lives.”

“Echuca deserves a modern ambulance service with the very best facilities, and that’s exactly what we’re getting on with doing. This is about putting people first no matter where they live or work in our state.”
