The Andrews Labor Government will bring together regulators, drivers and operators, as well as consumer and advocacy groups, to create a stronger, safer taxi and hire car industry.
Minister for Public Transport, Jacinta Allan, announced today that the Taxi and Hire Car Industry Ministerial Forum will meet for the first time in April and be chaired by out-going Taxi Services Commission CEO, Marnie Williams.
Representatives from key industry players such as the Victorian Taxi Association, Victorian Taxi Families, Victorian Hire Car Association and Uber Black will be invited to take part in the Forum, as well as key stakeholders such as Victoria Police, the Victorian Council of Social Services and the Victorian Human Rights Commission.
The establishment of the forum delivers on a key Labor Government election commitment to create a stronger, safer taxi industry.
The Forum, which will meet quarterly, will consider ways to reform the industry, reduce red tape, deliver a first-rate Multi-Purpose Taxi Program and wheelchair accessible taxis and other matters including the Knowledge Test and the emergence of ride-share activities.
Ms Allan will address participants at the first Forum on 27 April 2015.
