Apply now: Catchment Management Authority appointments now open

Monday, 04 March 2013

Expressions of interest are now open for board member positions on Victoria’s 10 Catchment Management Authorities (CMAs) and for the chairperson position of the Goulburn Broken CMA board.

CMAs and their boards are set up under the Catchment and Land Protection Act 1994 and are accountable to the Minister for Water and the Minister for Environment and Climate Change through the Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE).

Minister for Environment and Climate Change Ryan Smith and Minister for Water Peter Walsh said board membership provided an opportunity to help manage Victoria’s natural resources, while supporting the Victorian Coalition Government’s triple bottom line commitment to social, economic and environmental outcomes for the community.

“By being involved in the CMA boards, suitably skilled Victorians have the opportunity to make a difference to the way we manage our important natural resources,” Mr Smith said.

Mr Smith said CMA board skills were needed in areas involving: land management, water resources management and the water industry, waterway management, environment or natural resources management, primary industry, strategic or business planning and financial management.

People with public administration and governance and community engagement skills are also sought.

“CMAs play an integral role in bringing together a range of community organisations and groups to deal with the important issues of environment protection and conservation, local government, primary industry and water resource management,” Mr Walsh said.

Mr Walsh said current board members were welcome to reapply for their positions. Applications close 5.00pm on 19 March 2013.

More information and application forms are available at www.dse.vic.gov.au under ‘Latest News’ or the ‘On Board’ section at www.dse.vic.gov.au/about-dse/on-board or contact DSE’s Customer Service Centre on 136 186.
