Communities will have access to $10,000 grants to boost security and tackle local crime issues as part of the Andrews Labor Government’s commitment to crime prevention.
Acting Police Minister Robin Scott today opened the latest round of Community Safety Fund (CSF) grants and encouraged councils and community groups to apply.
The initiative provides funding for councils and not-for-profit community groups to deliver projects to help prevent crime, improve safety and strengthen community engagement.
The grants have funded a range of projects including:
- new security equipment and infrastructure (locks, vandal-proof security lighting, security screens, alarms, fencing and gates)
- small-scale improvements and upgrades to public spaces including streetscapes, parks and reserves to encourage more foot traffic
- education and awareness initiatives to help prevent motor vehicle theft and personal property theft, and prevent residential and retail burglaries
Councils and community groups have until 4pm on Friday 1 July 2016 to apply.
As part of the Victorian Budget 2016/17, the Labor Government has invested $19.4 million in community crime prevention.
